"I tend to take my time when completing a painting mainly due to the
fact that each time I look at a work in progress I get a new idea. I
can't tell you how many times I have completely painted over a
painting that was almost "finished." However, I always let a peice of
the old painting show through the new. To me, the new painting exists
as a result of the old. It is important to me that these layers are
visible. I like to think that my paintings have a sort of patina, the
result of years and years of wear that builds up on a surface. Each
layer tells a story.
My paintings are about stories. Yours might be different from mine,
but that is the beauty of it.
Inspired by the primitave art of the South and some of the spear heads
of the modern and contemporary art movements, I call my art
"contemporary|folk." Combining paint, photography, and various other
mediums, my art exists to evoke emotion, tell a story, and perhaps to
cover an unsightly hole in your wall.
